Seneca Lake

Dry Rosé

Crisp and well balanced fermented dry in stainless steel.

About this wine

The Cabernet Franc for Rose was handpicked on October 17, 2024. This was brought back to the winery where the winemaking team sorted each cluster by hand a second time. This is done to provide the highest quality fruit of the 2024 vintage. The fruit is then gently crushed and placed into stainless steel tanks. After 36 hours 150 gallons is saignee’d from the tank. This is done for two reasons the first is to create a fruit driven and plus rose the second is to provide additional body and character to the Cabernet Franc. Following the saignee it ferments using no commercial yeast. It rests in tank for 6 months until its eventual bottling in April of 2025.

Vintage Notes

2024 started two weeks early in comparison to other vintages, a warm stretch through March allowed the vines to wake up and undergo budbreak earlier than expected. This vintage is defined by two things the diurnal shifts and the near drought like conditions. Diurnal shifts are the warm day time temperatures coupled with the cool night time temperatures. The second were the drought conditions, record low rainfall lead to smaller berries and increased concentration in the wines. This created an environment that is conducive to great ripeness and great acidity in the wines. The reds are bright, fruity, and structured, and the whites are elegant and crisp. An exciting vintage that will produce wines with great age-ability.

Vineyard & Soil

The Vineyard was planted in 1990. Planted 1200 feet from the lake, the vineyard provides tension in the wine. The cool breezes off Seneca lake in the summer provide a crisp refreshing acidity. The steep 18% slopes increase sun exposure, giving this wine its weight and tannic profile. Planted in deep Lansing gravelly silt loam. This soil in a mix of shale and limestone. The deep soils provide plenty of micronutrients to create a plush ripe food friendly wine.
